Let’s each introduce one new habit in our lives each month in 2024

I sometimes write on LinkedIn about strategy. Sometimes technology. Sometimes business. Sometimes other stuff. I seem to be channeling my inner Tony Robbins a bit lately. This post is also along those lines. Please excuse me.
I have struggled all of my adult life with being overweight. I have written previously about the difficulties about being fat in the workplace and society. I have also performed stand-up comedy about being a fat business traveler on a plane. I have written about how being fat is unusual, because people feel that they have the right to give you unrequested advice about it.
I have had quite a few runs at losing weight over the years – all sorts of dietary, fitness, detox and other regimes. In general, low carb diets with moderate exercise seem to work best. I am going to give it another try this year.
The new twist is that I plan to introduce one new habit each month. Very specifically, I am going to try to be a good boy in all ways all the time, but I am doing to choose one thing that I definitely, definitely will stick to each month. And add one more the next month. January’s firm commitment is no sweet things. No desserts, cakes etc. February is stretching every morning and evening. March is very limited carbs. April is 10k steps per day. etc. I think this might be a bit more realistic, manageable and less pressure.
I have attached a picture to this post with my plan. The icons are (of course) created with generative AI.
I wonder if we all, whatever our personal and professional goals are, could use this strategy. Maybe even for our companies as well as ourselves.
If you read this post, I hope you enjoy it. But most importantly I hope you forget that I posted it, and don't check in with me at the end of the year :)
Endnotes:
(1) I told my manager about this recently, and he shared with me a recent article from the UK newspaper The Guardian, suggesting something similar. Link in comments below.
(2) This is also not the same as, but maybe in the same spirit as my awesome colleague and friend Alicia Mullery’s idea of having a gentle January – not rushing to set resolutions/ goals this month.

A yellow staircase with one step per month. Each month has a new item that I commit to doing in that month. Jan - no sweet stuff - picture of a cake. Feb - stretching every day Mar - no carbs - picture of a loaf of bread Apr - 10k steps per day May - intermittent fasting. Jun - no sodas. Etc.
