Have you found your AI treasure yet? Many companies like the idea of AI, but are not sure where to find the AI ‘treasure’ in their enterprises. There are so many possible places to consider. Yesterday, my colleagues Owen Pengelly, Rob O'Donohue, Brook Selassie and I published a Gartner Research note entitled ‘Discover Opportunities in Six Proven Places on the AI Treasure Map’. This work is based on the keynote from this year’s Gartner’s CIO Leadership Forum. We used the metaphor of a treasure map, highlighting six areas where X marks the spot, where many organizations have found their AI treasure. Where you have proprietary data, where you have hard to automate processes, embedding AI in your company’s products and services, in the employee and customer experience, and in your organization’s informational ecosystem. We also recommended a sixth place to look which is simply keeping a proactive watching brief on the ‘foreign lands’ of venture capitalists, startups, competitors and analogous industries. We illustrated each of these six areas with examples. These are not the only places to look, but we see lots of examples that start in these six places. We recommend running brainstorming workshops in each of these six areas, or even setting off teams in each of these six directions.
