I completed a 20 year dream this week, publishing my first novel. Let's all complete some of our fantasy…
To be read whilst listening to "I Am I'm Me" by Twister Sister
I am the kind of person who, on top of work and personal life stuff, always has a 'bucket list' of projects they would love to do. And I often tinker with them in my spare time, but never quite finish any of them.
Last year I decided to stop playing with all these projects, and focus on finishing one. I took a twenty year old idea for a novel I had and completed it. I self-published it a few days ago.
"The Aji of Dead Stones" is about a man who is diagnosed with a terminal illness, and decides to right a few wrongs before dying. The title is from the game of Go, where it is possible to have stones on the board that will definitely die, cannot be saved, but still retain influence on the game.
The book is in the vigilante genre and is a bit racy and violent, so I published it under a pseudonym. (A decision which I am sort of undermining with this post.) Details in the comments if anyone fancies reading it. (Caveat lector.)
I am going to try to finish another of my bucket list projects this year. Haven't quite decided which one yet.
Have you got any bucket list projects that you could finish, or make significant progress on in 2025?
