Introducing New Gartner Research on Customer Zero
Introducing New Gartner Research on Customer Zero
Companies using their own products first is often known as Customer Zero, Client Zero, Dogfooding/ Eating Your Own Dogfood, Sipping Your Own Champagne, <product> for <company> or being your company’s First and Best customer. (I am slightly concerned that I am personally attracted more to the dogfood metaphor than the champagne one.)
As AI accelerates product lifecycles and innovation, Customer Zero is becoming a source of sustainable competitive advantage. But it is hard to do well, and there are some associated risks.
My colleague Daniel Sun and I had the privilege of conducting a research project focused on how to win with Customer Zero. We interviewed the internal CIOs of eight of the most important hyperscale technology companies in the world, had a good hard think about the issue with colleagues, then wrote up the results. We just published the document: “Emerging Tech: The Increasing Importance of Customer Zero Programs for AI”. There is a link to the document (behind the paywall) in the first comment below.
Thanks to all our interviewees and our Gartner colleagues who gave generously of their time.
