are we collectively experiencing a feeling of "no safe place"?

I have been travelling around the world the last few weeks, talking to lots of clients, colleagues and others about topics including the opportunities and threats of AI, disinformation, geopolitics. Most conversations have been very positive, but there has been an undertone of fear. Fear of the unknown. Of increasingly divided politics. Of escalating conflict. Of a breakdown of global cooperation. Questions about the effects of AI on our jobs, identity, purpose. What paths we should advise our kids to take. This undertone reminded me of some of the toughest moments in my life. Moments I labelled "no safe place". When things at home, at work, with family and friends, financially, physically and mentally were all uncertain and going wrong at the same time. When I couldn't say "Well, at least I've got..." or "At least I know..." I am not claiming to have done well in those scenarios, but I did get through them. When I reflect on how I got through them, I find four things: 1. Leaning on my values. What I believed was right. Even if my circumstances were bad and no one agreed with me or had my back. 2. Focusing on the present (not past or future) and taking a good next step. 3. Focusing on the things I could control. 4. Forgiving myself for things I felt I had done wrong. Dumb choices I had made etc. Apologies if this is trite or obvious, but I wonder if these might be some of the things we could adopt at a macro level to steer the global ship toward friendlier, more stable climes. #unthink #unask #unlearn #uncertainty
